is a Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval in the Computer Science Department at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He currently leads the multimedia indexing and retrieval group at the Center. Dr. Manmatha's research is in the areas of image and video retrieval, document recognition and analysis and computer vision. Projects he has worked on include the retrieval of trademarks for the US Patent and Trademark Office and the retrieval of handwritten manuscript collections (like those of George Washington). Dr. Manmatha has consulted for several companies. He is currently an Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Information Systems and has been on the program committees of several conferences.
